Do you have what it takes to be a Volunteer Probation Officer?

If you are mature, responsible, committed and resourceful, the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports wants you!

The Probation Services Branch of the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports is looking for Volunteer Probation Officers to assist in the supervision of youths on probation.

You must be:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • Have completed Secondary Education
  • Be able to contact the probationer at least 4 times a month with at least two of those contacts being face to face
  • Not currently employed as a Prisons or Police Officer
  • Be physically and mentally fit

What is Probation?
Probation is a court order requiring the offender to follow a set of conditions under the supervision of a Probation Officer (PO), over a fixed period of time. It is an opportunity for offenders to make amends and become contributing members of society.

We adopt a "Strengthen Families, Engage Commmunity" framework to enable the probationers to stay crime-free. Volunteer Probation Officers (VPOs) complement the work of POs in the rehabilitation of these offenders.

Who are Volunteer Probation Officers (VPOs)?
VPOs are required to set aside a portion of their time to assist Probation Officers in the rehabilitation of young offenders. They come from all walks of life but believe in helping youth offenders become contributing members of society.

A Volunteer Probation Officer's involvement includes befriending, case supervision, organising/conducting activities, programmes and community service projects for probationers and their families.
