Many, who hailed from different parts of China, gather to rekindle comradeship and network.
Given China's huge population, gathering the Chinese nationals, who are NTU alumni, was no mean feat. NTU's People's Republic of China (PRC) Students Union made over 5,000 phone calls to Chinese alumni based in Singapore and sent out 2,500 e-mail invitations when they organised a get-together for the Singapore-based Chinese alumni. Thanks to their persistence and the aid of NTU's Alumni Affairs Office, they received at least 300 confirmations of attendance to the gathering of NTU's PRC alumni, held for the first time.
Preparation started as early as three months prior to the event, which was held on 29 March at the NTU Alumni Club located at NTU's one-north campus.
Of the gathering, alumnus Mr Wang Ting (EEE/2005) said: "I enjoyed myself very much. This being the first such gathering, I truly wish that such alumni gathering will be held again in the near future."
Also glad that she came, alumna Ms Sun Jin (MAE/2006) said: "I find the gathering very meaningful. I felt as if I was back at campus seeing some of my former classmates. Being able to renew ties with my fellow countrymen is a great feeling!"
On the positive feedback received, Mr Soon Min Yam, Director of NTU's Alumni Affairs, said that the Office spared no effort to organise activities especially for our international alumni so they stay connected to the University.
Indeed, hobnobbing under one roof could well be a unique Singaporean experience for the Chinese.
