A group of alumni from the National Institute of Education has produced a book to share their teaching experiences and trade secrets.
What do you get when like-minded alumni-educators who wish to make a difference in education, band together? They formed a group, calling themselves eduNet, and went on to produce their first book entitled "Class Dismissed: Lessons Beyond The Classroom". The book compiles the personal accounts solicited from the respective fields of expertise of the eduNet educators.
Of the book, alumnus Ng Yeow Ling, representing eduNet and who hailed from NIE's Class of 1995, said: "It espouses the life experiences and philosophies of educator practitioners, as they put principles into practice, in the educating of our young."
The book was launched at a ceremony held in NIE on 15 August, in commemoration of the coming Teachers' Day. The ceremony was graced by Mr Loh Ngai Seng, Deputy Secretary (Policy), Ministry of Education.

"Class Dismissed: Lessons Beyond The Classroom" is a gift of love for student-teachers at NIE, added Mr Ng. Aimed to inspire, it also serves to induct these student-teachers into the fraternity of educators so their decision to teach is re-affirmed. Said Mr Ng: "In the beginning of their journey of being and becoming a teacher, when nothing is sure, everything is possible. Until one is committed, there is hesitancy and the chance to draw back. The book encourages them to take the leap, and as they turn the pages, it is they who fill its next chapter."
Mr Ng and his fellow educators formed eduNet last year so as to be an inspiration to the teaching profession. "Through eduNet, we hope to bring about a positive impact on the marketplace of education," he concluded.
