Alumni of NTU's School of Biological Sciences now have an avenue for networking, thanks to the launch of its alumni association.

Be it networking for opportunities or just friendship, alumni of the School of Biological Sciences (SBS) now have an official avenue to tap, with the setting up of the NTU SBS Alumni Association (SBS AA). Launched on Saturday 29 November, the SBS AA held a special unveiling ceremony witnessed by VIPs of the School and NTU.

Lucky for the 120 alumni and guests, they were greeted by blue skies the moment they arrived. As the crowds made their way into the open atrium of the GV Grand, Great World City, they were in for a launch under the stars.

SBS AA, one among many
The moment every SBS alumnus was waiting for soon arrived. As the launch got underway, the SBS AA logo was unveiled by Guest-of-honour, Mr Anthony Teo, Secretary to the University. He was accompanied by Prof Alex Law, Acting Chair, SBS; Mr Soon Min Yam, Director, Alumni Affairs Office; and SBS AA's President and Vice-President, Messrs Zeng Renchun and Gerald Lau.

Mr Teo, in his address to all present, shed light on the importance of having an alumni association. Being the twelfth School-based alumni association, the SBS AA will become part of NTU's expanding alumni network, spanning countries like China, India, Indonesia, Vietnam and the UK. He also shared the intent to start an alumni association in the US in the near future.

SBS AA President, Renchun, on the other hand, highlighted the timeliness of the set-up. More so since the School was relatively new and had only three graduating classes, 2006, 2007 and 2008. He said: "I thought it would be a brilliant idea to get this (SBS AA) set up and running…we hope to host events on a regular basis and get all of us together. We want to be able to provide an avenue for friends to meet, catch up on good old times, to share what's going on in each others' life, and to network."

Buffet and movie treats
There was still much to enjoy, as the evening wore on. Alumni and guests were treated to a buffet spread, where international morsels were delightfully presented. While some were indulging their taste buds, others were striking poses for the camera in the hope of savouring a little memory of the day spent together.

So how do you end a good evening? The SBS AA wrapped it up with a movie screening of the spy-thriller, "Body of Lies", which starred Hollywood hunk, Leonardo Di Caprio. After all, one good treat deserves another.

"It's about time the SBS has its own alumni association. The School may be relatively young – there are only three batches of graduates so far – but I'm sure our association will serve as a platform for all of us, who are now at a different phase of our lives, to come together and bond. I look forward to renewing ties with my peers." - Mr Adrian Lim/ SBS/ Class of 2006
