The NTU Anglers' Alumni Association was launched at the Family Fishing Carnival on 13 December.
Students and alumni together with their families and friends gathered for a morning of fishing fun at the Family Fishing Carnival held at the Pasir Ris Town Park on 13 December. Although it was the first time such an event was being held, the response was good as there were about 120 participants, which included NTU students and alumni as well as their families and friends. The get-together also took on special significance as it saw the launch of a new chapter in the growth and development of NTU's alumni.
The NTU Anglers' Alumni Association was launched during the same morning by Guest-of-honour Mr Anthony Teo, Secretary to the University. It is the 7th interest based alumni association, bringing the total number of NTU alumni associations to 35. It will be headed by Mr Ong Zhi Hao, President of NTU Anglers' Alumni Association, who is an alumnus from the Nanyang Business School's Class of 2005.
In his address to the participants, Mr Teo stressed the importance of alumni keeping in touch and connecting with their alma mater. With the new interest-based alumni association, it will encourage more alumni with common interests and hobbies to gather and network via their association. Mr Teo thanked the alumni for their support and encouraged them to keep up their enthusiasm.
The sound of the gong by Mr Teo and Mr Ong marked the launch of the new association which was then followed by Mr Teo casting the first line. This was somewhat a 'signal' to everyone to get their rods and lines ready and start fishing! A total of 300kg of fish were released into the waters of the pond.
Fishing enthusiasts started their mission, and those who managed to get early catches were given prizes. There was great interaction among the anglers and while the fishing activity continued through the afternoon and it was definitely a heart warming sight to see groups of friends and families fishing together. And while some fished, there were others who were enjoying the snacks at the carnival stalls. Some even got lucky during the lucky draw prizes giveaway!
It was a relaxing day for many as they spent their time leisurely fishing and networking with fellow fishing enthusiasts alike. The participants had an enjoyable time as they not only got to fish, they were also able to spend quality time with their family and friends.
