  Connecting Nanyang, reliving Nantah days

The Classes of 1973 and 1978 celebrate their 35th and 30th anniversaries on 12 July.

They came. They celebrated. They connected. The classes of 1973 and 1978, who graduated from NTU's predecessor institution, Nanyang University, got more than expected when they attended their class reunion anniversaries.

Young Again
Many have not seen one another for at least three decades and were delighted that NTU's Alumni Affairs Office provided them with the opportunity to meet. Greeting each other warmly, they chatted amicably, rewinding their bygone days, and brought back fond memories of younger years. Friendships were renewed.

Alumnus Tan Siak Meng (Science/1973) was amused by the reaction he received from course mates. Mr Tan said: "I am glad I came. I got a chance to hear from my old friends that I haven't changed much despite the years, which is such a compliment. It is like being young again."

Magic Moments
Happy guests certainly make for a happy occasion. The reunion anniversary saw several alumni members, entertaining their peers, as they performed evergreens. Husband-and-wife performers, Mr Chong Chin Hin (Science/1973) and Mdm Lee Li Chin (Arts/1973), relived their Nantah romance through songs, as it was their shared interest in singing that brought them together.

Adding more magic to the reunion anniversary, Dr Su Guaning, NTU President, walked the alumni members through the University's milestones before bringing them up to speed with the progress made in recent times. In particular, Dr Su highlighted the eight Alumni Associations set up in China to-date, with the latest sited in Jilin, Guangdong and Liaoning.

Indeed, the 300 alumni, uniting at Nanyang Auditorium, where the event was held, had never felt more connected to their alma mater than at the class reunion.
