Giving back to their alma mater

Fifty-four dedicated alumni took time off their busy schedules to serve on interview panels for the discretionary intake and the selection of Nanyang Scholarship recipients.

Our alumni are an important constituent of the NTU community and are now regularly engaged in important University processes. In the admissions exercise, our alumni have been invited, since last year, to be part of the interview panel to select new students under the discretionary intake, and also to select recipients of the prestigious Nanyang Scholarship.

Under the discretionary admission, NTU admits students who have qualities in non-academic achievements such as passion, creativity, leadership and a sense of values in areas such as sports, the arts and community service.

The Nanyang Scholarship interviews are held once a year to select freshmen (polytechnic and A level applicants) with excellent academic results and good track record in co-curricular activities.

Our alumni felt honoured and were pleased to be involved in this important admissions process.

"Being part of the interview panel was an honour for me. I was glad to be part of the team that would be selecting the next generation of NTU students who would be able to contribute to the University's success and vibrancy, through their invaluable talents in Arts and Sports. I hope to continue to serve the university as an alumnus, by doing my little through services like this opportunity", said Mr Siva Gopal, alumnus from NIE, Class of 2005.

"I felt great and it was my pleasure to be able to serve my alma mater as an alumnus. I am glad to be given this opportunity and at the same time I was given the chance to network with the other alumni present," said Mr Chua Kang Cheh, alumnus from the Science faculty, Class of 1977.

The Alumni Affairs Office is grateful to our alumni who took time off from their busy schedules to assist the Office of Admissions and Financial Assistance in these important processes.
