  Enhancing the global experience

NTU has signed at least seven agreements in recent months with top institutions in Europe and China - including The University of Edinburgh, Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique and Shanghai Jiao Tong University - paving the way for exciting joint academic and research activities.

The academic alliances are part of the university's ongoing effort to provide the best learning experience for its students, faculty and researchers, and involves agreements with the following seven organisations:

  • The University of Edinburgh
  • Universiteit van Amsterdam (Amsterdam University)
  • Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique
  • Xi'an Jiao Tong University
  • Tianjin University
  • Shanghai Jiao Tong University
  • Zhejiang University

The University of Edinburgh and Universiteit van Amsterdam (Amsterdam University) are among the top 20 universities in Europe.

With The University of Edinburgh, NTU will participate in an exchange of chemistry undergraduates. Each year, up to six chemistry students from NTU's School of Physical & Mathematical Sciences (SPMS) will have the opportunity to spend six months at Edinburgh.

NTU's partnership with Universiteit van Amsterdam will link up the Economics divisions of both institutions, with the Dutch university and NTU's School of Humanities & Social Sciences (HSS) organising student and staff exchange, and joint research and teaching.

The landmark agreement between NTU's School of Materials Science & Engineering (MSE) and Commissariat a l'Energie Atomique (CEA), a leading research institute in France, will focus on joint research in organic electronics, as well as the exchange of students and researchers. This collaboration, the first between the two parties, taps MSE's strengths in nanotechnology and CEA's know-how in organic semiconductor technology.

NTU's College of Engineering has meanwhile renewed Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with four well-known Chinese universities - Xi'an Jiao Tong University, Tianjin University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Zhejiang University. The MOUs will enhance research efforts and research manpower training between NTU and each of the Chinese universities.

Says Prof Er Meng Hwa, NTU's Acting Provost: "Each of our partners brings with them unique strengths, and we can learn and benefit from each other through our collaborations. This is in line with our vision of being a global university of excellence, and we will continue to pursue such opportunities."
