Mr Chew Kheng Chuan, NTU's Chief University Advancement Officer, is striving to develop NTU's base of supporters and champions.

Appointed to the newly created post of Chief University Advancement Officer on 27 May, Mr Chew Kheng Chuan is a man for all seasons who brings well-considered views and his broad experiences to discussions on NTU's initiatives in fund-raising, alumni engagement and branding.

Reporting directly to the President of NTU, Mr Chew considers his "formidable task" ahead that of rallying supporters, alumni and friends, as well as students, faculty and staff, to help NTU build upon its strengths to achieve its vision of being a great global university.

Happy to go by the moniker of "KC", as he is known to many, the Harvard-educated scholar and long-time advocate of the arts brings to his role a keen strategic outlook and an understanding of best practices.

Regarded as one of Asia's most successful fundraisers, Mr Chew was Vice-President of Endowment & Institutional Development at the National University of Singapore (NUS) from 2003 to 2008, after serving as the founding director of the NUS Development Office. NUS raised $1.5 billion with government matching under his watch.

Mr Chew spent most of the earlier part of his career as Managing Director of Wordmaker Design, a typesetting and design firm he co-founded with his wife in 1985 and sold in 2001. Wordmaker Design created the design of the brand identities for Banyan Tree, Channel NewsAsia and Nanyang Polytechnic.

A keen arts advocate
Work aside, Mr Chew is active in artistic circles as Chairman of The Substation Ltd, Director of Theatre Training and Research Space (Singapore) Ltd, Steering Committee Member of the National Art Gallery of Singapore (slated to open in 2012), and Board Member of non-profit arts organisation Practice Performing Arts Centre Ltd, Singapore.

Devoted to the cause of education, Mr Chew has served his alma mater with distinction. Shortly after graduating in 1982, he took on the role of Chairman of the Harvard Alumni Interviewing Committee in Singapore. For his work in interviewing prospective Harvard University students from the region, he was conferred the Hiram Hunn Memorial Schools & Scholarships Award from Harvard College in 2005. Mr Chew is also a committee member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP, Singapore Chapter) and a member of the US-based Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).
