The institute’s inaugural hospitality management courses have drawn high praise from senior hospitality professionals from around the world.
The Cornell-Nanyang Institute of Hospitality Management at NTU recently welcomed 97 participants from 13 countries, who were in Singapore for its premier executive education courses.
The courses, known as Professional Development Programmes (PDP), are designed for all levels of hospitality professionals – from fast-tracking young managers to owners of international resort chains – and aim to provide learning opportunities in prevailing management techniques. Participants also discuss trends facing the hospitality industry and pick up relevant skills needed for business success.
Taught by internationally-recognised faculty from Cornell’s School of Hotel Administration, NTU’s Nanyang Business School, and industry leaders, the PDP, held from 5 to 21 January, gave managers an opportunity to learn not only from superb instructors but also from their peers, some of whom came from as far as France, Japan, India and Timor-Leste.
Ryan Chan, Marketing and Communications Director of The Bellevue Manila in the Philippines, said he was very impressed with the high-tech learning pedagogy. He added: "The professor used modern case studies that helped me apply theories to my business practice. Most of all, I made a lot of contacts. I highly recommend the programme to professionals."
Stephan Killinger, Resort Manager of Four Seasons Resort Bali, Indonesia, found in the PDP "a truly professional programme with an edge and intense pace". He revealed that he "enjoyed the discussions and perspectives in the classroom with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and cultures".
The next series of PDP will commence on 31 July and run through 12 August. The courses cover Food, Beverage, and Restaurant Management; General and Strategic Management; and Property-Asset Management and Real Estate, among others. Course details are available at the website.
