NTU's overseas alumni, who are based in Singapore, join the International Alumni Get-together Dinner, for a unique experience.
All present got a chance to see the world - at least for one night - through each other's eyes. They sure had a uniquely "colourful" dining and wining experience. After all, the guests were mostly alumni of different nationalities. Hailed from China, India, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, Pakistan, Vietnam, Myanmar and even Nigeria, they represent the "colours" of the world. A global community is evolving right from NTU!
More than 200 or so attendees gathered for this year's annual dinner get-together. They were among NTU's 7,200 overseas alumni, who are residing or working in Singapore. Overall, NTU's overseas alumni spans 110 countries and makes up one fifth of the University's alumni population of 121,000.
NTU's overseas alumni family is growing fast. Mr Anthony Teo, Secretary to the University and the night's Guest-of-Honour, said:"Our alumni are everywhere: From Inner Mongolia to Kazakhstan and Moscow and from the US all the way to Brazil, they are there. Which is why by the end of this year, we aim to have a total of at least 20 NTU Alumni Associations overseas."
The gathering was held on 24 April, at NTU's One-North campus.
"The NTU International Alumni Get-together Dinner felt like a warm and homely party, thanks to the organiser, being such a gracious host. It didn't matter that all of us who sat at the same round table didn't know one another. We slipped easily into discussion when the Guest-of-Honour highlighted the new campus redevelopment plan, voicing our varied views on the subject. We may be alumni from different countries, but showing our concern for the same cause – our alma mater - has blurred our differences." - Dr Yu Ming (EEE/2004)
