Twenty-eight NTU students and alumni don national colours at the 23rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in the Philippines. We salute our talents, who are competing for the glory and honour of Singapore.
The 13 students and 15 alumni collectively make up what is believed to be the biggest number of NTU athletes in a SEA Games contingent from Singapore.
The 23rd SEA Games, the most anticipated event in Southeast Asia, is being hosted by the Philippines in Manila. The games started on 27 November and will end on 5 December.
Our athletes are representing Singapore in various sports – from Traditional Boat Race (dragon boating) and Canoeing to Rowing, Fencing, Archery, Chess, Wushu, Volleyball, Shooting and Swimming.
Notably, NTU's presence in the men's dragon boat team is strong, with nine out of ten members coming from NTU. The captain of the men's team, Andy Chen, is our alumnus from the Nanyang Business School. He picked up the sport during his undergraduate days at NTU.
Exemplars of the Nantah spirit "There is no greater honour for an athlete than to be called upon to don the national colours to compete for the glory and honour of the country," said NTU President Dr Su Guaning in his send-off message to the athletes.
"On behalf of the university, I commend you for your courage in pursuing your passion in sports and for your commitment to excellence… Your pursuit and delivery of excellence even under the most adverse conditions exemplifies the Nantah spirit," he added.
The NTU community would like to record its strong support for the participants. We wish all our student and alumni athletes success at the 23rd SEA Games!
