  Integrating our international alumni

Our Vietnamese alumni integrate with the University community through a chill-out and networking party.

Among the University's growing number of international alumni, the Vietnamese alumni are one of the groups that the Alumni Affairs Office (AAO) makes an effort to integrate with.

This year, AAO facilitated the Get-together Night 2009, a platform where newly minted Vietnamese alumni and those of previous graduating classes are brought together to chill out with members of the NTU community. Representing the University community were Mr Soon Min Yam, Director of Alumni Affairs, faculty and staff.

The speciality of the night was having "A wish for memory", a Vietnamese song, popular among the community, being sung. Carrying the message of friendship, it accompanied a video clip of unforgettable varsity days put together by the organisers. Through the song and video, many connected with former classmates some of whom they had not met in a while.

The night also showcased a "Dancing Contest", which had guests bogeying away. More enjoyable performances ensued such as the renditions by singers whose names have become popular among the Vietnamese community in Singapore.

The Vietnamese alumni were glad for a chance to integrate with the NTU community in a casual manner. Held at Velvet Underground, Zouk, it had more than 200 guests who came, chilling out. Many eased easily into networking with members of the NTU family.

The Get-together Night was organised by the International Undergraduate Committee-Vietnam (IUC-VN).

Mr Vo Ta Han, Chairman of VN2020, a Singapore-based community of Vietnamese mentors and students, started the evening with a speech, which was followed by an address by Mr Soon.

Mr Lam Duy Chan, President of IUC-VN, and alumni representative, Mr Nguyen Quoc Tuan Anh, also spoke at the gathering. Similar theme ran across their speeches – they hoped for increased integration between the Vietnamese NTU alumni and their alma mater. Most of all, they wished everyone prosperity and success in their careers.

The Vietnamese alumni based in Singapore held a similar event last year. This year's Get-together Night took place on Saturday 29 August.
