In May 2005, Professor Cheong Hee Kiat relinquished his appointment as Dean of School of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE). He left NTU in June 2005 and now heads the newly formed SIM University (UniSIM) as its President.
Prof Cheong joined the Nanyang family in January 1986 as a lecturer. From 1987 to 1989, he was appointed as Assistant to the President of NTU. He served as the Director of the International Relations Office from 1992 to 1996. In June 1996, he was appointed as the Dean of the School of CEE (formerly known as School of Civil and Structural Engineering). In recognition of his efforts and capabilities, Prof Cheong was appointed as Deputy President of the university in 2000. He also held the post of Dean of the Graduate Studies office from 2001.
Prof Cheong will be especially remembered as a wonderful colleague, an approachable, friendly and committed person who never fail to show care and concern for his staff.
CACS would like to record its thanks and appreciation to Prof Cheong for his contribution, guidance and support during his tenure as Dean of the School of CEE. Under Prof Cheong's leadership, the School has established many partnerships with world renowned universities and has brought the university closer to being a world-class university.
