Prof Tay Beng Kang and his team from the School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering (EEE) have won the Prestigious Engineering Achievement Awards 2007 presented by the Institution of Engineers Singapore (IES).
Led by Prof Tay, Associate Chair (Admin) of EEE, the team comprising Dr Peter Cao Thang Ha, Dr Tan Xingbin, Mr Edwin Teo Hang Tong, Ms Yang Yi, Ms Wendy Yung Ka Po and Mr Hang Zhao Jun, is one of the leaders in the research of amorphous carbon materials fabricated by the Filtered Cathodic Vacuum Arc technique.
The team has developed various new carbon-based material systems and has published more than 200 papers in international journals.
The panel of judges for the award commended the team for their contributions to nano-engineered carbon hybrid systems, including full carbon hybrids materials, carbon nanoclusters systems, polymer metal integration and carbon nanotube ceramic applications. The EEE team received the award from Mr Philip Yeo, Chairman of SPRING Singapore and IES Honorary Fellow, at the award presentation ceremony held on 3 August 2007.
