3,858 new students responded to the online Student Information Technology Background Survey conducted by the Centre for IT Services (CITS) via the web-based StudentLink services during the period from March to June 2009.
iTzone published the survey results on PC and personal device ownership in the last issue. In this issue, we analyse their telecommunication service subscription profile.
Telecommunications Service Subscription
 As shown in the chart below, 35.1% of the students subscribed to handphone services with GPRS service, a decline as compared to last year (41.4%).
On the other hand, 42.5% of them had 3G data service subscription, an increase from last year's figure (39.7%). The percentage of surveyed students who owned handphone without subscribing to GPRS or 3G data service had also increased slightly, from last year's 29% to 31.7%.
Not shown in the chart, 88.1% of the surveyed students who subscribed to handphone services used SMS service regularly, the same as last year.
