WE HAVE DONE IT!

NTU community celebrates 50th anniversary with new national record

NTU alumnus, Mr Lim Nghee Huat, sets a national record by completing the 168-km run in 24 hrs and 44 mins. Two other runners also completed the full distance. Offering their congratulations at the finishing line were NTU President, Dr Su Guaning, and Transport Minister, Mr Yeo Cheow Tong.

After months of preparation by the runners and the organising committee, the Run Round Singapore 2005 event was successfully held from 1 to 2 October 2005. Starting with the flag-off ceremony at 9am on 1 October and ending with the Grand Finale Carnival at 3pm, the event saw 8 runners comprising representatives from the staff, faculty, student and alumni population in NTU attempting to complete the full 168km run. The route is the longest ever running distance to be held in Singapore.

It is with much pride that we announce that 3 of our runners have successfully completed the run in the timing as follows:

  1. Mr Lim Nghee Huat (林义发), alumnus from Class of 1975 completed the run in  24hrs 44mins & 52 secs.
  2. Mr Yong Yuen Cheng (杨渊菁), alumnus from 1997 completed the run in 26hrs 11 mins & 3 secs.
  3. Mr Adrian Mok (莫岳麟), alumnus from Class of 1999 completed the run in 27hrs 54mins & 53 secs, despite a knee injury.

Run Round Singapore also sets a national record of having some 3,600 runners participate in the relay segment which comprises 50 stations island-wide completing the relay run in under 30hrs.

Their unwavering dedication and endurance is testament to the Nantah spirit which will undoubtedly bind past, present and future generations of students.

In conjunction with Run Round Singapore, $168,000 was raised for the university's endowment fund to benefit future generations of the university.
