Five fabulous female alumni do us proud.
Top of the world
Two of them were among Singapore's first all-woman Everest team to have made it to the top of the world. Just who are these peak performers in our midst?
Part of the NATAS Singapore Women's Everest Team (SWET), they are the nation's first all-female team to have done the country proud when they conquered the world's highest mountain. The alumnae among them are: Esther Tan and Lee Peh Gee. Esther graduated from the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information (WKWSCI) in 2005, while Peh Gee, the Nanyang Business School (NBS) in 1998.
Esther, who was in SWET's first team, reached the 8,850 metres above sea level summit at 3:54am on 20 May 2009, Wednesday, Nepal time. Her team mate, Lee Li Hui, was the first to reach the summit at 3:45am. Forty eight hours later, Peh Gee, who was in the second team, made it to the summit, adding to the resounding success. Her record was 5:56am on 22 May 2009.
For the NTU duo and their four SWET members, it took them a whole of five years of preparation, including the garnering of sponsorship. They have certainly risen above it all to reach the top.
Hot in the glam world Also in our midst are three NTU alumnae who made it to the Star Awards 2009 winner list.
They were none other than Joanne Peh (WKWSCI/2006), Ng Hui (WKWSCI/2002) and Lu Rui En (NBS/2004). Joanne clinched the Best Actress Award, while Ng Hui (WKWSCI/2002), the Best Supporting Actress, and the duo, along with fellow alumna, Rui En, coveted the Top 10 Most Popular Female Artistes award. They were presented with the Star Awards at Singapore's very own Oscar night on 26 April 2009.
Joanne and Ng Hui won plaudits for their roles in the hit drama serial "The Little Nonya", leaving lasting impression on audiences, here and overseas.
They also coveted the prestigious Nanyang Outstanding Young Alumni Award, which were presented by NTU's Alumni Affairs Office.

Congratulations, NTU alumnae! Girl power reigns supreme!
